(Format : mp3 , Language : English)
Rupert Psmith (or Ronald Eustace Psmith, as he is called in the last of the four books in which he appears) is a recurring fictional character in several novels by British comic writer P. G. Wodehouse, being one of Wodehouse's best-loved characters. The P in his surname is silent ('as in pshrimp' in his own words) and was added by himself, in order to distinguish him from other Smiths. A member of the Drones Club, this monocle-sporting Old Etonian is something of a dandy, a fluent and witty speaker, and has a remarkable ability to pass through the most amazing adventures unruffled.
Psmith in the City (1910)
Review from Amazon.com: Unable to afford Oxford, the young Wodehouse went to work at the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, and this provided the background for this novel. At one point during his tenure there he opened a new ledger and began filling it with a story about an imaginary celebration over the wonderful event of opening a new ledger. When his superiors became aware of this misuse of Bank's office supplies, they were not at all pleased. In fact they went so far as to tell him that if ever there was a Bank Clerk Of The Year contest, he shouldn't bother to enter it. And that's the tone of this book, almost from the moment Psmith arrives for work at the bank until he leaves it for the last time. When writing this early novel, Wodehouse was not yet the master of plot structure he would eventually become, so the ending is weak. But the situations and dialog presented throughout are first rate humor. Anyone who can read it and not gurgle with laughter probably just lost their dog.

Psmith Journalist (1915)
The irrepressible Psmith is accompanying his fellow Cambridge student Mike to New York on a cricketing tour. Through high spirits and force of personality - well, you know how Psmith is - Psmith takes charge of a minor periodical, and becomes embroiled in a scandal involving slum landlords, boxers and gangsters! It's a roaring Wodehouse tale, replete with colorful characters, clever wordplay, and the sorts of retorts you wish you had at your command. And, rare for Wodehouse, a strong social conscience!

Leave it to Psmith (1923)
The eccentric and congenially self-absorbed Wodehousian hero of this novel is Psmith. Although he holds a membership to London's six most exclusive clubs and never a wrinkle or misplaced crease did find its way into his impeccable attire, he finds himself in dire financial straits. To make it worse, while lounging in the smoking-room window of the Drones Club, he instantly falls in love with a passing young dainty - but he has no idea how to introduce himself into her society. Yet there might be a solution to his problems through the ad for work-wanted that he recently placed in the Morning Globe. In the caption he expresses the sentiment that he will take on any job whatever (including assassinating Aunts) except for anything relating to fish. You have a problem? 'Leave it to Psmith!' He ends up impersonating a well-known Canadian poet in order to introduce himself onto the guest list at beloved Blandings Castle, presided over by the eminent Lord Emsworth. While there he must steal a diamond necklace from under the tireless eye of The Efficient One - Emsworth's flower-pot-wielding secretary Baxter.

Wodehouse said that he based Psmith on Rupert D'Oyly Carte (18761948), the son of the Gilbert and Sullivan impresario Richard D'Oyly Carte, as he put it 'the only thing in my literary career which was handed to me on a silver plate with watercress around it'. Carte was a school acquaintance of a cousin of Wodehouse at Winchester College.
